Accelerating Data Center Deployment Through Microgrid Benefits in West Virginia
Verity shared some major developments in West Virginia that significantly benefit large-scale data center projects.
As of April 30, 2025, House Bill 2014 (the Power Generation and Consumption Act) is now law. It creates a Certified Microgrid Program and High‑Impact Data Center designation—empowering developers like you to:
- Deploy bespoke microgrid power systems (coal, gas, renewables) without PSC approval,
- Be certified within 14 days and bypass local zoning/regulatory delays,
- Sell up to 10% of generated power wholesale, likely reducing energy costs,
- Ensure utility customers’ bills won’t subsidize your infrastructure,
- Benefit from a single Data Economy Liaison in WV Commerce,
- Access substantial state/local revenue reinvestment, including tax credits and aid programs.
Speed & Cost Impact
By avoiding traditional grid interconnection and permitting routes, your projects can move from planning to execution far faster and at lower cost—with transparent rules and no ratepayer charge-backs.
